April, You Were Great!

Hello everyone! How are you all doing? That’s a rhetorical question, I know you’re just here for a wee skim-read. Whether you’re planning your wedding or enjoying some well deserved rest and relaxation whilst trying to fight off those post-wedding blues, I’m just going to assume that everything is good with you!

We’ve had quite a busy April, wedding season has well and truly kicked off! First off we had Nicola and Andrew’s wedding in Aswanley, Huntly. That was quite a drive for us (over 4 hours of car banter!) but it was SO worth it! Aswanley is an amazingly beautiful venue in the middle of nowhere (no signal for miles, perfect for keeping guests off their phones!) and Nicola and Andrew did a brilliant job of decorating it. We were on a stage in front of a really cool old tapestry – it was really all just beautiful.

(Steve has since ironed the Empire cloth..)

If any of you are planning a wedding in the Aberdeen area, I definitely recommend looking to Aswanley for a gorgeous rural venue. Nicole and Andrew had some really lovely friends and family who kept the dance floor busy all night and totally nailed the ceilidh set! See below for a video of Nicole and Andrew’s guests having a good old ceilidh shin-dig — it was our first ceilidh set using Steve’s bagpipes on the melody and we were really happy with the results!

The following weekend we had our showcase at Sweeney’s on the Park. What a night! We have played Sweeney’s a couple of times before and it’s always so much fun. Giancarlo was booked to play somewhere else so we had the lovely Mark Vincent Paterson with us on bass, always a pleasure. Thanks to everyone who placed bookings after coming to view us!

That same weekend (it was a busy one, coffee coffee coffee) we played at the Glen Wedding show. Tell you what, I’ve got my empire biscuits down to a T now – I’d go as far as saying it’s an art. It probably only took me about 3 hours this time round…

We bumped into our pal Iain who runs Fife Photo Booth Hire. Check them out for a great photobooth – Iain is great crack and really good fun. I love a Photo Booth pic —I’m pretty sure the guys in the band are sick of me dragging them into photobooths, but I just can’t help myself! Here’s the latest:

We bumped into Tomasz Osobka-Leszczynski of Marvelshot, who took some great shots of us in action – thanks Tomasz!

Once again, thank you to all the lovely couples who booked us at the Glen!

Next we were at the Gailes House Hotel in Irvine playing for Paul and Lisa’s big day. What a wedding! They got engaged in New York (a great opportunity for us to dust off Empire State of Mind!) so they had a wonderful Big Apple theme with white and Tiffany blue. They had a video diary room for their guests to record messages in, which is such a cool idea – I’d never seen that before. They even had a confetti cannon during their first dance, for cryin’ out loud! (Not gonna lie, I did get a bit of a scare when the wedding coorindator approached us and mentioned ‘pyrotechnics’… but confetti I can handle!) Paul and Lisa have the most adorable little boy, Caleb, who is 4. He partied in his jammies until about half 11! His favourite song is Shut Up and Dance… we played it three times. I would have played it all night for that little face!

So, all in all, a pretty successful April for us!

We are playing LIVE at the wedding fayre in the Beveridge Park Hotel, Kirkcaldy, on the 8th May. It starts at 12pm, see you there! In the meantime, feel free to email me at [email protected] to check your date availability or ask for a quote.

Until next time!
